George Hess passed away in his 70th year in a hospital in Brantford, Ontario, Canada, on Sunday, June 17 with his family at his bedside.
George was born in Czechoslovakia, while living in Canada he was involved in many public organizations and movements that were devoted to better the life of Canadians. His enthusiasm and dedication were not only local, but he was involved in international movements and took part in many political activities which were dedicated to bring about social changes for the future of all mankind – socialism.
George Hess was an active member of the Editorial Board of Northstar Compass, a journal going all over the world and dedicated to the friendship and solidarity with Soviet peoples. He was active until the last in the preparations for the upcoming World Congress for Friendship and Solidarity with Soviet People that will be held on September 21-22-23 in Toronto. He was one of the proposed Chairmen for this world event where over 100 delegates shall gather to elect the International Council. George was one of the leading proponents for this Congress.
George was always present together with his wife at all of the events that were held by the Canada-USSR Association and now the Canadian Friends of Soviet People, taking an active part in discussions and giving sound advice.
George Hess shall be missed not only by his immediate family, but also by all the progressive movement in Canada and many other countries of the world.
